Hair growth is a tricky thing, everyone wants long pretty locks, so we do all the things to “take care of our hair” but sometimes we are doing more harm than good! I have literally lived this, thinking I am doing it right and it will grow, but then it like doesn’t. Sometimes, it's not even what we are putting on our hair, rather it is what we are putting in our bodies! I have compiled three reasons why your hair isn’t growing and what you can do to fix them.
Vitamin or mineral deficiency
What you put in your body comes right out. If you’re feeding your body not-so-good foods, not enough food, are dehydrated, or overall just not getting the vitamins and minerals you need, there is no way your hair will grow! This is also true for your nails and your skin. If you have dry brittle nails or lots of imperfections on your skin, take a peek at your diet. A quick way to fix this is to take a multivitamin. Simple, I know- I’m no doctor! Look at it this way, in general, as adults in America, we typically don’t get enough of what we need.
The most common deficiencies are iron, zinc, and selenium…insert multivitamin. The way I see it, if the vitamin is going to make my hair happy, I’m happy! If a multivitamin isn’t up your alley, make sure you are getting enough protein (hair is protein. protein=amino acids. Amino acids=hair), leafy greens & vitamin C like um…*orange juice*.
Your scalp cannot breathe!
Quite literally. We focus so much on our hair that we don’t think about where it's growing out of. Taking care of your scalp is as simple as using the correct shampoos, protecting your scalp from sunburn, brushing your scalp (I’m so serious) to increase blood circulation & not allowing sweat and oil to build up. Think of your scalp as the soil the hair grows out of, if the soil sucks, the hair won’t grow.
Split up with split ends
Have you ever been in a toxic relationship? If you have split ends, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but…. Sorry, not sorry. It is possible that your split ends are so split *toxic* that they are breaking before the hair can grow.
When a split end breaks off, it doesn’t make a clean break. It makes another split end…moving slowly up your hair shaft until well, it’s all gone. SO how do we fix this one? I am here to say there is no magic cream that will remove split ends, and there is not a hot oil treatment in the world that will cure them, but there are shears, and shears will cut them right off in a nice clean break. In other words, get a haircut, babe!
*side note, a haircut is the same as a trim.
Being Proactive

By following the tips I've shared in this blog post, such as getting regular haircuts, using a nourishing hair care routine, and being gentle with your hair when brushing and styling, you can minimize the risk of split ends and promote strong, shiny locks.
Remember, taking care of your hair is not just about looking good, it's also about feeling good. So treat your hair with the love and care it deserves, and you'll be rewarded with beautiful, healthy locks that make you feel confident and fabulous.
